Reflections on Ron Maggiano’s Resignation

Dear Bill and Melinda,

This is so sad… Another casualty of teaching. But I don’t blame him one bit.  And as for the comments left on the article that he should stick with it and work within the system to change things- well, I think that in a lot of instances that is just not possible.

You can be a more effective activist without having to protect your job, evaluation, and livelihood.  Now he has his retirement income to hold him up.  It sounds like he will continue to speak out against this sort of thing.

What kind of innovation will we ever have to create new software, computers, or anything else if we must teach kids to simply spout out facts?
